Oregon

Columbia River Gorge -- Here's a streaming video shot of the Columbia River Gorge in Hood River. The cam is located in an office building right on the water, so you can catch all the windsurfing action you can handle. The image is small, but it's real! And pretty cool. When you click on this link you'll need to scroll down and choose which stream you'd prefer. videobugvideobugvideobug

Crater Lake -- If mountains and icy lakes excite you, here is one for you! It's the "Crater Cam," located at Crater Lake National Park in Southern Oregon. The cam only updates every 30 minutes and you get mostly parking lot, but the upper half of the image is pretty spectacular. videobugvideobug +

Crooked River -- Located in Central Oregon near Bend, the Crooked River Bridge Construction cam is one of Channel 6000's weather cams. It's really a great cam when it's sunny and bright out. During Oregon's unusually sunny fall this year the shot looked spectacular. Through winter it was a bit drab, but still worth a look. You can barely see a mountain in the background -- not sure which one it is, but a viewer tells me the camera is aiming northeast toward Madras and the Warm Springs Reservation.videobugvideobug +

Eugene -- Visit the University of Oregon campus with this Web cam. It's located at Lawrence Hall. One time I looked and it was pointed toward a street corner ... the next time it was pointed down the side of the building with a bunch of bushes in the frame. Both were not the most interesting views I've ever seen, but the picture is bright, clear and it updates every minute. Worth videobugvideobug

La Grande -- A shot taken from Eastern Oregon University. If you're familiar with the campus, you might like to know that this shot is a view from Inlow Hall. It's up-to-date, is fairly clear and has a large picture of (right now) a campus building. However, Ken (the viewer who sent this in) tells me it often shows different, more interesting views of the Grande Ronde Valley. Whatever it shows, it's a huge picture! videobugvideobug

Lincoln City -- Here's the JonnyCam at Road's End on the north end of Lincoln City (just under a two-hour drive from Portland). This is a great shot of what a typical Oregon beach looks like... generally overcast and abandoned. You might get an occasional shot of a seagull perching on a post for a moment, and I'm told that Jonny often gets in the picture as well. videobugvideobug +

Mount St. Helens -- Here's a great big view of the famous mountain. It's not the clearest shot ever, but a majestic view nonetheless. This is one of several cams available on this site. videobugvideobugvideobug (lb)

Newport -- A very nice picture of a marina in Newport along the coast of Oregon. Makes you want to be there, packing up a lunch to head for a day of boating on the ocean. Nice wide shot, which provides an excellent view of the bridge and bay. Worth videobugvideobug +

Portland -- The Broadway Cam in downtown Portland is brought to us from Hynes Consulting. It's located near the Performing Arts Center, which brings in a lot of activity... plays, performances, even movie crews. But if nothing's going on you can at least take a look at the historic Portland sign in view. Nice shot, but only updates about every 30 minutes. videobugvideobugvideobug

Portland -- The Pioneer Courthouse Square cam is situated atop one of the buildings that resides near "Portland's Living Room," as locals like to call it. Sometimes you get a bird's-eye view of the square. Other times you might get a view of Broadway St. and the downtown buildings that line it, with the West Hills in the distance. Great downtown shot! videobugvideobugvideobug

Portland -- Here's a shot from the Pittock Mansion in Portland. This historic mansion nestled in at the top of the west hills overlooks the entire city. On a clear day, this vista is incredible in person. The cameras doesn't seem to give it justice, but it could just be the haze, which is present for most of the summer. Worth a look, but only worth videobugvideobug for now.

Portland -- Here's a view over the residential northeast section of this river city. Quite the vista. The sky dominates the shot of this camera, which appears to be pointing slightly upwards. You can see a sliver of the river in the foreground, with a hint of the mountains that are a short drive from Portland. A bit dim when it's raining out, but when it's sunny, what a shot! Worth videobugvideobugvideobug

Portland -- Here's another great shot that gives a sense of this wonderful city -- especially since last time I checked there were raindrops covering the lens! It sits atop a downtown tower and looks southwest of downtown. A shot equal to the one the above, worth videobugvideobugvideobug +

Portland -- Here's a dueling shot with other netcams in the city. This provides and apparently popular shot across the Willamette River onto downtown. Proportion looks solid, with a sliver of the river in the foreground and the downtown buildings taking on the appropriate girth. Quality seems solid, although when I've checked it out it looked gray, but, then again, the city is gray most of the winter. Worth videobugvideobug +

Portland -- This one can be truly surreal. Atop a television transmitter, this shot can show a vista, or, if cloudy, give you a shot above the low clouds hanging over the city. Really. I saw it for myself. Even though the over-the-cloud shot is dark, it is eerie. Strange being above the clouds like that. So, it's worth videobugvideobugvideobug

Salem -- A camera in the state's capitol city gives a bird's-eye view of the state capitol building. A nice location for a camera. Proportion is nice. Picture is clear. videobugvideobugvideobug

Seaside -- Here's a shot of an estuary of the Necanicum River from a vehicle bridge. It's downward looking, and showed the edge of a roof when I checked in. It certainly gives you the feel for the Pacific Northwest. The camera purports to update itself every two minutes, and the author says you can spot cormorants and ducks on a regular basis, as well as the occasional Blue Heron. Image quality is nice, but the proportion seems all wrong. Worth videobugvideobug

Timberline Lodge -- A view from Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. This ski resort was the setting for the movie "The Shining." Another vivid shot when the sun is out, and a breathtaking shot of a peak when it's pointed at the top of Portland's mountain. The camera operator didn't skimp on quality cameras. videobugvideobug +

Yaquina Head -- A fellow Oregonian and surfer sent in this shot of Agate Beach, taken from Yaquina Head near Newport, Ore. The camera is mounted atop the Yaquina Head summit to give a complete overview of the coastline. Great picture! Supposedly updates every hour, but when I checked it out it didn't seem to have been updated all day long. A fluke? I don't know. But for that, and that only, I'll dock it half a point. videobugvideobug + (lr)
